Universal primer for interior and exterior use

  • active corrosion protection
  • weather resistant
  • quick drying
  • very economical
  • very good adhesion
  • nitro-resistant
  • suitable for powder-coated components
  • heat-resistant up to 80 °C dry heat

Jaeger Multigrund is suitable for almost any surface, even for powder-coated surfaces. Jaeger Multigrund is a universal primer with active corrosion protection for adhesive coatings on iron, steel, zinc, aluminium, anodised aluminium, V2A steel, powder-coated components, many different plastics, such as hard PVC, polyester, polyamide, ABS and wood, and all this indoors and outdoors.

Preparation of substrate

The substrate must be dry and free of scale, oil, grease, dust and other contaminants; loose rust and mill scale must be removed. Borax residues must be completely removed from brazed joints. Galvanised surfaces: Corrosion products, grease and other contaminants must be thoroughly removed. Pre-treatment with diluted ammonia solution in combination with wetting agents has proven effective for preparing zinc surfaces. For every 10 litres of water, use 0.5 litres of ammonia solution and approx. 8 ml (1 tablespoon) of wetting agent, e.g. washing-up liquid. Use this mixture to polish the surface with a plastic fleece (e.g. Scotch-Pritt from 3M Company) until the foam turns metallic grey; the foam must be left to act on the surface for about 10 minutes. Then wash with clean water and allow to dry. Light sandblasting has also proved to be an effective method. Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 5.

  • Aluminium (including anodised aluminium) should be primed: Degrease with nitro thinner and remove corrosion products by sanding. Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 6.
  • Plastics: Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 22, ‘Coatings on plastics in building construction’.
  • Prime old coats: Check for adhesion and sand down. (Pre-test)
  • Prime V2A steel: Thoroughly remove grease and other impurities, roughen the surface with an abrasive fleece.
  • Powder-coated components: remove grease and other impurities thoroughly, roughen the surface with an abrasive fleece. Due to the different types, we recommend preliminary tests. Observe BFS Data Sheet No. 24.
  • Wood, wood-based materials: Multigrund provides excellent adhesion. Sand the substrate, to remove dust. For exotic woods, we recommend a preliminary test.

Paint structure

1 - 2 x Jaeger Multigrund. The anti-corrosive effect increases with increasing dry layer thickness of the multigrund. It can be overpainted with many acrylic, synthetic resin and nitrocellulose lacquers.
