Kronen® 319 wood insulating and finishing paint is a triple-action solution that combines priming, insulating and finishing in a single step. The product is particularly useful for renovating old wood panelling or ceilings, where it offers a time-saving alternative to conventional multi-layer systems. The excellent insulating effect prevents the penetration of wood ingredients such as resins or discolouration, while the high degree of whiteness gives rustic wood surfaces a modern look – without covering the characteristic grain.
Particularly practical for users: the paint dries quickly, can be applied in matt or silk gloss and provides reliable coverage in just one step. Whether it's historic wooden ceilings, modern OSB boards or MDF surfaces – the 3-in-1 formula shows its strength on almost all wooden surfaces; a preliminary test is only recommended for high-fat exotic woods.
Spraying a wooden ceiling
- Preparation of the paint: Stir the Kronen® wood insulating and covering paint well before use.
- Setting up the sprayer: Prepare the sprayer according to the manufacturer's instructions. We recommend the following Wagner paint spray systems for applying Kronen® wood insulating and covering paint:
- WAGNER XVLP: Use the standard spray attachment, maximum air volume, material volume 12, no thinner required.
- WAGNER HEA Airless: Use the HEA ProTip nozzle (size 515) at a spray pressure of 160 bar without thinner.
- Spraying wooden ceiling: Spray the paint evenly onto the wooden ceiling, taking care to ensure even movements to achieve a perfect finish.
- Second coat: Apply a second coat to achieve an optimal result when spraying the wooden ceiling.
Instructions for using Kronen® wood insulating and finishing paint
Preparation of the substrate
- Cleaning the wood surface: The wooden ceiling should be clean, dry and free of dust and grease. Thoroughly clean dirty surfaces before painting.
- Sanding: Sand the wooden ceiling with 100-grit sandpaper, including in the joints. Then remove sanding dust with a broom or vacuum cleaner. Do not forget to sand beforehand, even in the case of firmly adhering old coats of paint and layers of varnish!
- Covering: Cover the floor! To ensure that the paint only goes where it should – namely on the wooden ceiling or wall panels – be sure to lay down masking film or fleece and cover critical points and transitions with masking tape before painting.
Then you can use a paintbrush, paint roller or sprayer and the wooden ceilings or wooden panels are ready to be varnished or painted.
Painting wooden ceilings
- Preparing the paint: Stir the Kronen® wood insulating and covering paint well before use.
- Painting wooden ceilings: Apply the paint evenly to the wooden ceiling using a brush or paint roller. Make sure you use even movements when painting wooden ceilings to achieve a perfect finish.
- Second coat: Apply a second coat for the best possible result when painting wooden ceilings. Two coats are usually sufficient for a radiant finish.
Two coats of Kronen® Holz-Isolier- und Deckfarbe are usually enough to achieve a perfect result when painting your wooden ceiling white.
Special instructions
- Oily woods: Preliminary tests should be carried out to check the adhesion of the product on particularly oily woods such as teak.
- Processing conditions: Ensure a processing temperature between 8°C and 30°C with humidity between 30-60%. High humidity and low temperatures delay the drying of the coating film.
- Drying time: Allow the first coat to dry (approx. 4 hours at 20°C and 55% relative humidity). At temperatures below 15°C, we recommend accelerating drying by means of targeted air circulation (e.g. with a fan).
- Recoatability: Our Kronen® Holz-Isolier- und Deckfarbe can be recoated with all emulsion paints and with acrylic varnishes after 24 hours. If in doubt, we recommend a preliminary test. Do not recoat with two-component varnishes and PU-reinforced acrylic varnishes, as there is a risk of cracking. Ideally, only recoat Kronen® wood insulating and finishing paint with itself, as the coating is a primer and top coat in one.
